Between 2017 and 2018, a breakwater was built in Bucalemu, Chile, representing a significant investment for the municipality.
The project aimed to improve working conditions for artisanal fishermen, but the outcome turned out very differently.
The structure altered the natural flow of the tides, causing the bay to begin filling with sand. With this unexpected change, something no one had foreseen appeared: a perfect wave—perhaps one of the best waves ever accidentally created by human intervention in Chile.
